How to install SQL Server 2008 Express on Windows Server 2003/2008

SQL Server 2008 Express is a scaled down, free edition of SQL Server 2008. This article describes how to install SQL Server 2008 Express on Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2008. Before starting, make sure to install the items listed below.

SQL Server Installation Center


1. In SQL Server Installation Center, click Installation.

2. Click New SQL Server stand-alone installation or add features to an existing installation.

SQL Server 2008 Setup


1. In Setup Support Rules, click Ok.

2. In Setup Support Files, click Install.

3. Click Next.

4. In Product Key, click Next.

5. In License Terms, check I accept the license terms and click Next.

6. In Feature Selection, check the features you want to install and click Next.

7. In Instance Configuration, click Next.

8. In Disk Space Requirements, click Next.

9. In Server Configuration, specify the Account Name and Password for the SQL Server Database Engine service and click Next. Learn how to create a new user account.

10. In Database Engine Configuration, specify the Authentication Method to use and the SQL Server administrators and click Next.

11. In Error and Usage Reporting, click Next.

12. In Installation Rules, click Next.

13. In Ready to Install, click Install.

14. The setup process will now begin.

15. After the setup process finishes, click Next.

16. Finally, click Close.
