This articled describes how to install Active Directory Domain Services for a brand new forest on Windows Server 2008.
Server Manager

1. Click
Start and click
Server Manager.

2. In
Server Manager, click
Roles.

3. In the
Roles page, click
Add Roles.

1. In
Add Roles Wizard, click
Next.

2. Check
Active Directory Domain Services and click
Next.

3. In
Active Directory Domain Services, click
Next.

4. In
Confirm Installation Selections, click
Install.

5. The installation will now proceed.

6. Click
Close this wizard and launch the Active Directory Domain Services Installation Wizard (dcpromo.exe).

1. In the
Active Directory Domain Services Installation Wizard, click
Next.

2. In
Operating System Compatibility, click
Next.

3. Select
Create a new domain in a new forest and click
Next.

4. Specify the fully qualified domain name of the new forest root domain and click
Next.

5. Select your forest functional level and click
Next.

6. Select your domain functional level and click
Next.

7. Review the domain controller options and click
Next.

8. Review the Active Directory folder paths and click
Next.

9. Specify a strong password for the Directory Service Restore Mode Administrator account and click
Next.

10. Review your selections and click
Next.

11. The installation process will now begin.

12. Click
Finish.

13. Click
Restart. Active Directory is now installed.
