This articled describes how to install Active Directory for a brand new forest on Windows Server 2003.
Configure Your Server Wizard

1. Click
Start, select
Administrative Tools, and click
Configure Your Server Wizard.

2. In
Configure Your Server Wizard, click
Next.

3. In
Preliminary Steps, click
Next.

4. In
Server Role, select
Domain Controller (Active Directory) and click
Next.

5. In
Summary of Selections, click
Next.
Active Directory Installation Wizard

1. In
Active Directory Installation Wizard, click
Next.

2. In
Operating System Compatibility, click
Next.

3. Select
Domain controller for a new domain and click
Next.

4. Select
Domain in a new forest and click
Next.

5. Specify the full DNS name for the new domain and click
Next.

6. Specify the domain NetBIOS name and click
Next.

7. Specify where you want to locate the database and log folders and click
Next.

8. Specify a location for the system volume and click
Next.

9. Select
Install and configure the DNS server on this computer and click
Next.

10. Select
Permissions compatible only with Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003 and click
Next.

11. Specify a strong password for the Directory Services Restore Mode administrator password and click
Next.

12. Review the summary and click
Next.

13. Installation will now begin.

14. Click
Finish.

15. Click
Restart. Active Directory is now installed.
